What is Media Literacy? A Canadian Definition

In its 1989 framework document, Media Literacy Resource Guide, the Ontario Ministry of Education uses this definition:

"Media Literacy is concerned with helping students develop an informed and critical understanding of the nature of mass media, the techniques used by them and the impact of these techniques. More specifically, it is edcuation that aims to increase students’ understanding and enjoyment of how the media work, how they produce meaning, how they are organized, and how they construct reallity. Media literacy also aims to provide students with the ability to create media products."

New for 2003: CML's MediaLit Kit"! provides a framework for learning and teaching in a media age.
